Mirror! Mirror! on the wall!

Beauty. It’s one of those things as women we have all thought about at one time or another. Some of us think about it more than others. Some of us think about it too much! But one thing is sure—little girls and women relate to beauty in some way, so it does make a good theme from anything to little girl birthday parties where they play dress up to big girl parties where we have makeovers, do each others nails, and all those things.

Beauty Party Event Ideas

As Christians, our ultimate goal is to be like Christ. That is where our true beauty comes in. One spiritual application of this is on looking deep to see if we are reflecting Christ in everything we say and do. Be sure to check the “Spiritual Applications” section below. I have tweaked the whole theme, but have listed several more items in that section especially. (June 2020)

Theme Verse Suggestions

“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.”   Proverbs 31:30 (KJV)

“Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.” 1 Peter 3:3-4 (KJV)

“As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.”  Proverbs 27:19 (KJV)

Icebreakers

Discussion Starter Questions

  • What do you think are signs of physical beauty?
  • What do you think are signs of spiritual beauty?
  • What is your one must do beauty ritual?
  • What is the one beauty product or cosmetic that you cannot live without? (By the way—If I had to answer that question, it would be mascara!! I can’t live without mascara because I look dead without it!)

Dress the Model

  • Give attendees supplies such as rolls of toilet paper, throws (small blankets), scarves, belts, etc.
  • Give them a time limit to “dress the model”.
  • Give a small prize to the “models”.
  • Use this icebreaker as a discussion starter that God accepts us just as we are and He is our way to Salvation.  We can’t add anything to our lives (no accessories) that will make a difference.  There is nothing we can do to take ourselves to Heaven.  We just have to accept that Christ bore our punishment for sin and He is the only way.

Music

  • I Surrender All
  • Living for Jesus
  • Remind me Dear Lord (Gaither)
  • Soft classical music for background
  • Chorus: Beautiful For Thee  (not sure of author)
  • Favorites
    • If used for a Mother Daughter Banquet, you could gather up all the favorite hymns of the mothers/daughters and put them together on one long playing tape or cd.
    • Play it during your function.
    • Have a list of the names of the songs and the names of the ladies whose favorites they are typed up somewhere in your program bulletin or a handout so as they are played everyone can see whose favorite song it is.

Favor Ideas

  • Embroidered hankies – Dollar stores are a great source.  The 99Cent store carries them periodically.
  • Individually wrapped makeup wipes
  • Make-up or perfume samples
  • Facial Masks. My favorites are the Nature Republic ones. I got them first at the Nature Republic at the Korean Store in Sacramento a few years ago, but since, I’ve been buying them from the online Nature Republic through Amazon. They usually have a good deal on the value pack where you get them close to $1 a piece.
  • Lip gloss or balm
  • Small hand cream tubes or bottles.
  • Make up homemade beauty products ahead of time or make it an activity. I’ve shared some possible containers from Amazon, but do a search. There are so many container possibilities!

  • Small make-up bags (the small type that zip)
  • Identification Tags or ID Key Chains. Make up a form and make them look like identification tags.
