Olympics Party Theme

As I mentioned on yesterday’s post, the Winter Olympics 2022 are coming up, February 04 -22.

The Olympic Games are part of the very culture.  Face it.  We like to compete.  Who is stronger?  Who is faster?  Who can endure the longest?  Who has the best skills?

The Olympics bring all type of people together.  There are so many different events in the Olympics, so it encompasses people with different interests.  All manner of countries are involved so that brings a variety of people together to focus on one single thing.

Olympic parties are a great way to come together to root with and for people that you don’t even know!  It’s a great coming to together with unity theme.

The event themes on the website can be used for showers, parties, women’s ministry retreats and activities, or church functions. Each theme will have one or several possible spiritual applications. I give you lots of info and ideas—You pick just a few to enhance your event. Devotional Starter & Workshop Ideas

Simple Decorating

  • International flags
  • Flags of your own country

  • Use hula hoops for Olympic Rings Display. (you may have to paint for correct colors)
  • Winter items for Winter Olympics (mittens, snowshoes, etc.)

  • Simple Décor: Tray filled with trophies, medals, framed photos of Olympians, etc.

Icebreakers

Team Names

Use the name of different countries for team names for games.

Relay Games

Do some relay games such as running with a large marshmallow or cotton ball on a tiny spoon, pass a cup of water (in place of torch) without spilling, dress in a snowsuit the fastest (for winter), etc.

Game Prizes

Give out medals on ribbon for prizes.

Olympic Schedule

Use some of the things on the Olympics Schedule at your event, such as during the “opening ceremony” play the national anthem, have a parade of athletes (if you will be having games/competitions), lighting the torch, etc.

Summer or Winter Olympics Party

During an Olympic year, have a get-together during the broadcasting of the Olympic Games and watch some of the activities together.

Summer Activity

Go hiking, bike riding, swimming, or some other summer activity together.

Winter Activity

Go as a group to an ice skating rink, take a short winter hike (or walk), go caroling if it is before Christmas, go on a ski trip, etc.

Around the World Potluck or International Dinner

Assign food dishes for various countries and have a potluck.

Missionary Emphasis (Thanks to Erica, one of my followers, for this idea)

  • Use this time to highlight missionaries in certain countries that your church supports, or make gift items to send to them.
  • Or create a card at the ladies meeting to send to the missionary wives.
  • Use a missionary’s wife as the speaker or another lady that might have worked to gain her citizenship and apply it to the fact that our citizenship is in heaven if we know the Lord as our Savior
