How to Throw an Apron Ladies Retreat

Bonding over the love of aprons can be a wonderful activity. Many of us remember our moms or grandmothers wearing aprons. They are a historic part of our society.

What’s not to like about an apron. They are practical, have some history to them, and they can be so unique and beautiful. Many are just works of art.

Just for Fun

Apron Contest
Have everyone wear an apron. Give prizes for the most unique, most colorful, the most worn, etc.

Apron History
Have ladies bring in aprons that have a “history” to them, such as a grandmothers, mothers, etc.  Have a sharing time.

Invitation Shapes
For the programs, cut out an apron shape out of colorful card stock paper and glue lace or ribbon on them for the ties.

Apron Fashion Show
Use your guest to model. You could veer it just to vintage aprons.  They are so detailed and beautiful. Be sure to point out all the wonderful details of each model’s apron in your show “script”.

Group Craft
Have embellishments such ribbons, buttons, ric-rack, etc. to decorate plain purchased aprons as a craft project.

Group Project
Work on an apron sewing project as a group.  Make a few aprons for your church kitchen or for your nursery workers.

Swaps/Exchanges

  • Recipes. Nothing goes better with aprons than recipes!
  • Cookies
  • Aprons. Give a price limit and have everyone bring aprons to exchange.

Cake Walk
Have a few of your best bakers make cakes for your event and have an old fashioned Cake Walk.  If you are working on raising money for a specific project, have your ladies “donate” a few dollars to participate in the cake walk.

Food and Serving

  • Have anyone that is serving to wear aprons.
  • Good old fashioned food or serve something that used to be all the rage, such as jello salads or fondue.
