Stamped "Trendy" Poinsettia Tutorial

Poinsettia Bags

This poinsettia is made by using the longer shaped tree from the Stampin' Up! Trendy Tree Stamp Set. Great for handmade Christmas cards and for topping presents or gift bags too!

Trendy Trees Stamps

    Supplies (Stampin' Up!)
  • Whisper White or White Naturals Card Stock
  • Real Red Classic Ink Pad
  • Summer Sun or More Mustard Card Stock -- Or your favorite yellow for the flower center:)
  • Embellishments for center (buttons, brads, pearls)
  • Pencil/Compass to mark center
  • Stampin' Dimensionals
  • 1 Inch Punch (for center)
  • Scissors
  • Paper Cutter
  • Old Olive (or your favorite green color of ink for the leaves)
Poinsettia Tutorial
Cut a 3 3/4 square piece of white cardstock. Using your compass and pencil make a 1/2 circle directly in the center of the card stock. On some of mine I just guess-timated and drew mine. If you don't have a compass and have a 1/2 punch, use a cut-out of that to draw around.
Poinsettia Tutorial
Using Real Red ink, stamp the longer tree stamp from the set 2 times directly across from each other around your drawn circle.
Poinsettia Tutorial
Stamp 2 trees again directly across from each other.
Poinsettia Tutorial
Stamp the image in between your four previously stamped ones. They will overlap slightly.
Poinsettia Tutorial
Now stamp in between all of the "petals" which your image has formed overlapping so you don't see any white between your "petal" layers. The overlapping gives some depth to your poinsettia.

See my blog post for this fun project!

Cut out your poinsettia either around the stitching on the stamped image or inside of it. I did mine both ways. On the right one on the photo, I cut out on the inner side of the stamped stitching and cut the "petals" more to a point.

On the left one in the photo I layered my poinsettia by cutting out the smaller layer and putting it on top of the whole poinsettia with dimensionals (foam mounts). I turned the layers so the "petals" went in-between the other layer.

If you want to add leaves, stamp the image with green ink and cut out and adhere. Use your 1 inch punch to make your center and embellish as you wish---buttons, brads, pearls---you decide:)

On one I used smaller circle punch cut-outs and put Crystal Effects on them to make them shinny. It's hard to see it in the photo.

I did some with Chuncky Glitter on the centers but I'm waiting on some Shimmer Paint to do the edges before I finish them.

You can see where I made a center with the 'swirl' stamp in the set on this blog post.
