Pattern Of A Princess (Sewing Theme)

Postby Julia » Mon Sep 08, 2008 9:19 am

Hi Ladies, I'm getting ready to post a "Sewing" Theme on the site so I wanted to put this old post up. I thought it had some good things in it. :D

I added the arrows in the post so that you could find the points of the "instruction sheet" easier to find.

Our theme for our mother daughter banquet this year is Pattern of a Princess ...
We are using the verse: Titus 2:7a "In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works" This theme will revolve around what we as God's daughters should strive to be...or qualities we should have as His princess.

It is actually a two-fold theme because we are doing princess related stuff but we are also doing sewing type things to tie in the "pattern" idea. The cover of our booklet will look just like a pattern of a little girls fancy dress. I am going to scan an actual pattern envelope and just change some of the information. Like, instead of Simplicity, it will be Simply Designed by God. The date of our banquet will be the pattern number.

Inside the booklet, a couple of pages will be devoted to an Instruction Sheet:

 General Directions: Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

 Study First: 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

 Planning Layout: 1 Corinthians 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

 Cutting instructions: Cut out "all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking," Ephesians 4:31

 Seam Allowance: Philippians 2:3b Let each esteem other better than themselves.

 Stay Stitch: Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee...

 Ruffling: Not called for in this pattern Psalms 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

 Darts: Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

 Facing: Isaiah 50:7 For the Lord GOD will help me...therefore have I set my face like a flint

 Zipper: Proverbs 17:28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

 Binding: Proverbs 6:20-21 My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

 Pressing: Philippians 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

 Gathering: Isaiah 40:11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

 Instructions for Yoke: Matthew 11:29-30 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

:arrow: Running Stitch: Hebrews 12:1-2 Let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;

 Finishing Details: 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

 Ornamentation: 1 Peter 3:3-4 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

We are planning on having the little girls come dressed up as princesses and do a fashion show.

For songs, we plan on using Child of the King and I Belong to the King, possibly Family of God.

For tickets, you could make them appear to be a royal invitation on parchment paper in script font

Other theme verses could be:
Psalms 45:13 The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.

For decorating, I plan to tie in a lot more of the sewing side of things using sewing baskets, maybe quilting things, jars of buttons, etc.

We may have a lady give a demonstration or talk about quilting or some small sewing project just to mix it up a bit.

We haven't thought about favors yet or games.

We still have a lot of planning yet to do but this is for starters for us.

Thank you SO much for posting this! I will be working with a group of young ladies(9-11yo) this fall on a simple quilting project and was in need of a devotional. I really wanted to keep it relevant to our project and tied around Proverbs 31:13, "She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands." This post will be a great help to me.

Thank you again!!

Thank you SO much for posting this!
Your welcome Tracey. Thanks to Sarah too for this post. I'm not sure if she is a member now that we have a new board. We do have a Sarah but I'm not sure if she is the same one.

BTW, there are some easy sewing projects listed on the CLM Blog.

This is a neat theme, and I loved the craft projects mentioned in the last post---particularly the cupcake pin-cushions!!!

Thanks,

Heather
