Showers

Postby mstblu27 » Mon Jun 22, 2009 5:11 am

Hi,
I am curious to know who takes care of organizing the baby and wedding showers at your church. Does the ladies ministry do this, does the Sunday school class that the lady is in do it or is it taken care of another way. I am trying to organize our ladies ministry and this is a topic that seems to be an issue. I have always been in a ladies ministry where they had a person in charge of this area but at my church now they seem to think this is not a ladies ministry. I would like to hear other thoughts on this. It would help me out greatly!
Thanks
Misty

Hi Misty. This can go so many different ways (no way being right or wrong). But in our church (we are only four years old...church plant) I the Pastor's wife do this along with the ladies ministries. If the time ever comes and someone else steps up and wants this position, I would gladly pass it off. I do enjoy it, just could devote more time to other things of the Lord. But I would still probably consider it part of the ladies ministry if it was passed off. But we are also only a church of 60 people. Larger churches might view this differently.

The small churches we have ministered in, the women's ministry or pastor's wife has been responsible for doing baby/wedding showers. Of course when you're in a small church, there aren't many other choices.

We (Women's Ministry) used to do the showers, but there were a few left out, you know those that don't come regular, etc and then we would have a huge crowd at one and almost no one at another. Feelings were getting hurt and when I became the director, i stopped them, with the teams blessing. Now we give a gift basket for every birth and wedding. We try to sneak it in their car when possible or do it in some way that brings no focus on us. We sign it from the church and i think very few people even know it is the Women's Ministry doing it. Now, if someone wants to throw a shower they can but Women's ministry does not throw it.

Nila,
I like the way you guys do the gift basket in cars. If we ever get too large or it becomes a problem for us, I will suggest we adopt your way. Thanks for sharing.
