Our pastor does not like the 'recognition' he gets each October during Pastor Appreciation month so he has requested that we call it Ministry Appreciation. We try to do a program around a theme and include everyone in ministry. Some years we give out small gifts of appreciation and some years we just do a Power Point tribute to each ministry/leader. We try to give our pastor(s) and their family an extra special gift. We have loads of fun doing it. We've had a Medieval Banquet, a Builder's Barbecue, a Mexican fiesta and a Hawaiina luau. Last year with funds being tight - we had a picnic at a local park. We have a committee that begins early on the planning and then hold the dinner the first or second week of October. Fun, fun, fun.

I can understand the pastor not wanting a special recognition day. I like the idea of ministry appreciation. So many of the volunteers and those ministering behind the scenes seldom are recognize. I like your theme ideas!! Thanks

I love the ministry appreciation idea! In the churches we've been in, the people usually honor the pastor on the anniversary of his coming to the church. I think it's great to have a time to honor all of the workers in a church ministry. After all, anyone who works in the church is on staff, they just aren't paid a salary! They all deserve our thanks. What a good idea!
