Shared Ideas For Women's Ministry

Thank you to those of you who have turned in their "homework" for the 2009 Back To School Assignment for women's ministry. If you still want to get in on the homework assignment, you can find it here!

The following are from 2007 Women's Ministry Homework Assignment. Thanks to all of you who participated!

Every year for the last 30 years, our Ladies Group has had a salad supper. Everyone pitches in and brings in different salads (meat salads, fruit salads, vegetable salads, dessert salads, etc). Each time we have a different theme (last year's theme was an “Old Fashioned Salad Supper”) and we decorate accordingly. This event is an annual tradition that we use to fellowship together and get to know one another better.

My name is Mary and I’m the new coordinator for our Coffee Break women's ministry. As a branch of this, we have an active Secret Sisters group. The evening everyone is still commenting on was a Chocolate Night, accompanied by a Christian comedienne DVD. I used your “Recipe for Friendship” devotional and was deeply touched when I received a note thanking me for being the chocolate chips in their life.

Thanks for all you do and your devotion to women's ministries. You have a fantastic site and I LOVE the new look.

I've taken lots of ideas from this site and am looking forward to putting them into place. Our first event will be our "It's A Secret" gathering. We're going to draw names to play Secret Sisters in August with an "unveiling" party at the end of December. I look forward to learning a lot from the "more experienced" ladies here.

Since taking over the Ladies Ministry at my church, I and my council have created a Process & Procedures book for all the events we do so that if we want to do something similar in the future, there is a "how to" place to go and we aren't reinventing the wheel each time we plan an event. Also, after each activity, we do a "lessons learned" exercise so we can make any adjustments or changes to our procedures.

Thanks for all you do for women's ministry.

Greetings. You have such a great site and so many resources. I was looking for a devotional that could be used during our upcoming women's retreat. Our theme is, "My Body Is a Temple" from 1 Cor 6:19. I fell in love with, "A Beautiful Woman in Christ".

I wanted a creative way to present it, so I enlisted the help of our craft expert. We are putting each of the nine improvements on a business card; the tenth card will bare the retreat theme & logo and the name, Spiritual Make-up Kit. We are placing them in cute boxes and presenting them to the ladies during our last fellowship before our closing service.

We started calling our program Secret Big Sisters. Each lady picks a teen girl from our youth group and prays for her and encourages her throughout the school year. We give little notes and small gifts (candy bars, hair stuff etc.) and then on their birthdays and for our reveals we give bigger gifts (we set a price limit of $15-$20).

Once a month we have a prayer meeting and do nothing but pray for each teen girl individually. The teen girls are not expected to reciprocate but many write thank you notes and leave them on the table or communicate what is going on in their lives through notes. We only run it through the school year as most ladies are ready for a break come summer.

We also add news girls as they come in throughout the year. By having the girls fill out info sheets at the beginning, we get to know them a little bit better. Everyone at our church seems to love this program and looks forward to it every year.
