Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23
My kids always want piñatas at their birthday parties, but they scare me to death. Not the piñata itself, but the very idea of giving a child an object to wield around doesn't set well with me.
We've done a few piñatas at parties, but we usually forego them. I have seen however, lately, that they are making piñatas with a pull string so all the kids have to do is pull the string and the contents inside is released.
I do think some piñatas are very beautiful. I used to always tell my kids. "Why don't we get one and not break it open and just look at it?" That never went over too well because inside the kids know that piñata should be filled with candy. Yum! Sweet stuff.
I must admit that piñatas are fun to make. I can remember making them in grade school and I've made some when my older daughter was little. One year we did a pumpkin one together.
You can take tissue paper and make piñatas in all the colors you want and really be creative with them and make them just so colorful and beautiful.
We can do that to ourselves too. We can paste on all the beautiful things we want as embellishment but we've got to remember it's what's inside that's going to count. We've got to be filled with the sweet stuff. Our heart is going to dictate what comes out of us.
We are living in the world and when it comes wielding it's cruelty at us, there are going to be things that perhaps fade our tissue paper, tug at pieces of us, smash us, and weather us. That pretty colorful tissue paper may just come sliding off of us.
Our life's piñata may get cracked with amazing force. We've got to retain beautiful thoughts, compassion, and love in our hearts so that in turn beautiful deeds and beautiful words will come out of us.
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. Luke 6:45
If we are keeping our hearts in tune with Christ, when the cold dark object of the world comes whacking on us, out will spill beautiful and sweet things that reflect the Lord.
So, what's spilling out of you?
