Off to Work we Go!
Posted May 02, 2012
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord Ephesians 5:19
Don't you just love that little song from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs? Those dwarfs marched right along singing their happy tune.
Heigh ho! Heigh ho!
It's off to work we go!
As Christians we have work to head off to as well. Shouldn't we be singing a happy tune? After all, we are doing what Christ left us here on this earth to do. That is to evangelize and spread the Gospel.
Let's take a look at those dwarfs and see if they can remind us of some things to push forward with our "work".
This one can remind us to "rest" in the Lord. After all, being on this earth can get us a little down. We see all these things around us that seem to be applauding ungodliness. At times we may think the world is winning but we have to remember Who is in control and rest in Him.
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Psalm 37:7
Nothing like heading off to work in a happy mood, but as Christians we can have more than just mere happiness. We can find that joy in the Lord. I think sometimes we forget that joy is one of the fruits of the spirit. It's not one of those gifts that only some are blessed with. It is one of the fruits we are supposed to be bearing as Christians.
Joy in our hearts can help us bear up under so many things when we head off to work.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22,23
Doc is one of the dwarfs in the story that comes off as the smart one. Aren't you glad we have the Smart One? I think it is so satisfying to know we have and know the Great Physician. We just have to remember that He is there to listen to us.
Remember when the Israelites were in the wilderness. God kept taking care of them but would have to remind them every so often that He was God and would take care of them.
...for I am the LORD that healeth thee. Exodus 15:26
Sneezy can help us remember that we are in the world but not of the world. You know how you get that tickly sensation when you sneeze? It's because something has irritated your nose. We should have an allergic reaction to the things the world throws at us.
Things of the world should be foreign to us as Christians and when the dust of the world drifts up over us, it should make us sneeze. Our bodies should reject the world.
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15
When we think of someone being dopey, we usually think they are a little slow, a little foolish, and perhaps maybe even a little uneducated. As Christians, I don't think we should be that way. We should be smart Christians when it comes to knowing the Bible, what we believe, and how to share the Gospel with others.
We've got to be prepared as we head off for "work".
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15
Do you have grumpy co-workers or are you grumpy yourself? No one wants to be around people like that when they go to work. As a Christian, we especially shouldn't be conceived as grumpy. We are representing Christ.
We all have the grumpies take over us at times but we have to do things in order to combat it, such as start our day off in prayer and Bible reading before we head off to work.
Do all things without murmurings and disputings. Philippians 2:14
There's nothing wrong with being bashful but as Christians we have a God of strength. We can be bold in the Lord, especially when it comes to doing our "work" of spreading the gospel. Sometimes it can be intimidating to talk to others about Christ, but we are to share our faith.
Sometimes it might not even be by long speeches but just a few words or even a few deeds of kindness, The Lord will help us with that if we just ask and depend on Him.
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Deuteronomy 31:6
Those dwarfs were heading off to mine for diamonds and rubies, but as Christians we are working for souls. There's a whole big wide world out there that needs Christ. We've got our work cut out for us so why not sing a happy tune as we go about it?
We have a wonderful God who loves us and cares about us. I think we should be happy about that. It should make our heart want to sing praises to the Lord as we go about our way.
So, are you singing on your way to work?
