My Friend, Superman
Julia Bettencourt
"I will go in the strength of the Lord God..."
Psalm 71:16
One day several weeks ago I was trying to open a
jar of pickles so we could have pickles with our
burgers. Apparently, my three year old daughter
could see I was struggling. She popped up and said,
"Mom, I have a friend who could help you with that."
"You do!" I replied.
"Yeah. His name's Superman but he's not here right now so he can't help you."
I think she had only seen Superman the cartoon
a couple of times, but she knew he was strong.
It never ceases to amaze me how much faith
children have. We, as Christian adults have
a real "Superman" as it were and yet sometimes
we forget to ask Him to open the pickle
jars in our lives. We just go on getting frustrated,
tapping at the lids, running the jars under hot
water, and doing all the prying ourselves.
We forget to just let go and let God use His
almighty hand and His strength to open them.
If we would just rest in His strength, more
windows and doors would open up to us with more
blessings and opportunities. If we'd just
have that faith to realize that our God is
much stronger than we are. He's our "Superman"
and He's always there.
