"Meant" (Ment) to Serve

The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments.  2 Timothy 4:13

In 2 Timothy, chapter 4, Paul is sending for Timothy and telling him to bring with him Paul's cloak, along with some books and parchments.  I think this part where he talks about bringing the cloak is one of the most practical things to do mentioned in the Bible.  Paul was in need of it, so he asked Timothy to bring it along with him.

There is always a need for someone to do something in ministry.  It was a little thing Paul was asking but little things add up so much, especially when it comes to serving the Lord.

How about you?  Do you find yourself pitching in and doing the things that need to be done?  People willing to serve are needed in every aspect of ministry from the big things down to maybe picking up something and getting it to where it is needed.

Achievement.

Achievement is always needed in ministry.  There are things that need to be accomplished to move forward.  There are always tasks to do and goals to reach.

When it comes to women's ministry, there are definitely always things that need to be done.  It might be little jobs like making phone calls to get folks to prepare meals for the sick.  It might be cooking for a special church meal.  It might be organizing, sewing, or a number of different things.  It might even be speaking and sharing with a group of ladies.

Achievement is possible with lots of hands pitching in. We can make a difference when we are busy serving the Lord.

And of some have compassion, making a difference  Jude 1:22

Commitment.

I love people that are committed to do the tasks that are before them.  They make it a point to dedicate themselves and really understand what an obligation means.

When you are committed to something, you keep at it and put effort into it.  Think of what could be accomplished for Christ if more Christians were committed to Him.  I think it boils down to how much we really love Christ because that translates into how much we are committed to Him and how much we serve Him.

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  Matthew 22:37

Encouragement.

Encouragement is so needed in the daily lives of everybody.  I know I need it quite often.  Encouragement is part of Christian living and part of serving the Lord.

We encourage others by praying for them.  We encourage by the things we do and by how we act as well, but what I think is important is encouragement on a personal basis.  Just encouraging someone by a kind word or deed aimed specifically at them.

Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.  1 Thessalonians 5:11

Investment.

Investment into ministry is so important.  Not just when it comes to money or donations, but such a big difference can be made by investing time and effort.

I know so many ladies over the years who have invested so much time into women's ministry by hours spent on projects and planning.  That time and effort serving the Lord is an investment into furthering the Gospel.

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.   Colossians 3:23

Involvement.

Involvement basically just means being involved. In order to accomplish anything you have to be part of it. How involved are you in the things of Christ?

We are all to do our part in the body of Christ.  None of us can sit on the sidelines because we each have our gifts and talents to bring to the table.  We each have to serve the Lord in our own way with what the Lord gives to us.

For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or
Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

For the body is not one member, but many.
1 Corinthians 12:12-14

Conclusion:

No matter what we do to minister to others, even if it is bringing along a cloak, books, and parchments like Timothy was asked to do by Paul in 2 Timothy 4:13, it has its reward.

We probably all get discouraged in serving Christ from time to time, but we have to keep plugging along because we have such a powerful message to share.  We have Christ to share with a dying world.  All the time, prayers, tears, love, struggle, heart, and effort that we put into it is worth it.

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Galatians 6:9, 10

So, are you serving the Lord with all your ments?
