Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him… Psalm 37:7
Have you ever had moments when you knew that God was with you "right on the dot"? Not that He ever leaves us, He's always with us, but are there times when right in the nick of time when you needed Him most, you could feel His presence and see Him leading?
I've had moments like that. I can remember not long after my husband and I were married, we were traveling and our car broke down. It was late at night and we were out in the middle of nowhere with no one to help us. No cell phones back then.
I can remember it being so dark, so very, very dark and I can remember being so scared and just praying, praying, praying. I'm not sure how long we were stuck there but it seemed like an eternity. Then all of a sudden this man and lady pull up out of nowhere and they helped us. The man knew just what to do and helped my husband.
As soon as he'd helped us, we looked up and they were gone. Everything was just pitch black again. I always tell my husband that they were angels, whether they came straight down from heaven or not, I don't know, but whoever they were, I know God sent them "right on the dot".
There have been other things in my life, big and small when right at that moment I knew that the Lord was leading and moving. Sometimes we may not even be aware of God's moving and how something worked out so timely until sometimes down the road or maybe we'll never know.
I'm so glad God knows what and when we need something in our lives. He has a way of moving and entwining things so that they work together at just the right moment. God's timing is so perfect for us as His children.
The Bible has a lot of examples of how God moves "right on the dot". Here are a few.
I think of Sarah first I guess because I had my last two children when I was in my late 30's and not expecting to be a mother all over again. My oldest was 12 when we had our second child. That was a long time in between and we just never thought we'd have other children and we had grown settled and content with that fact.
After our second was born, it wasn't too long before I was expecting again. Our middle and last child were born 17 months apart. You definitely know that wasn't my timing but God's.
God's timing of Sarah having a baby at her age I'm sure didn't make sense to her but it happened according to what God wanted. God was there moving in Sarah's life right when it was His plan.
Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. Genesis 18:14
2 Shunammite Woman
In 2 Kings chapter 8, you'll find the story of Elisha and the Shunammite woman. Actually this story starts back in 2 Kings chapter 4:8 on up till the end of that chapter if you want to read the whole story, but I'll just highlight a few points here.
The prophet, Elisha, had brought this woman's son back to life and then told the woman there would be a famine in the land for seven years and that she should go away with her family to avoid the famine. After the seven years was up, she returned and had to go before the king in order to plead for her land to be returned to her.
At that very moment the king was talking to Gehazi, who was a servant of Elisha's. The king was asking about the things that Elisha had done and Gehazi was telling him about Elisha bringing the boy back to life.
The woman was there before the king to ask for her land and Gehazi told the king that it was the same woman whose child had been brought back to life. What happened? The king restored everything to her.
…So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now. 2 Kings 8:6
Isn't that great how that woman had come before the king at just the same time that the king was asking Gehazi about what Elisha had done?
That wasn't just accident. That was God's perfect timing, "right on the dot".
You'll find the story of Lazarus in John chapter 11. When Lazarus died, I'm sure Mary and Martha didn't think Jesus was where He needed to be at the right time. They had sent word and they knew Jesus was aware that their brother Lazarus was sick but Jesus didn't come right away. The bible says He stayed two days in the same place before going on to Judea where Lazarus was.
When Jesus did arrive, Lazarus had been in the grave for a whole four days already. When Jesus arrived Martha came out of the house and told Jesus, "Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died." John 11:21.
We are the same way, we question why, when, and how the Lord does things in our lives. But we have to realize He is in control and knows what He's doing. What did Jesus tell His disciples on their way to see Lazarus?
And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him. John 11:15
This was an opportunity for God to get the glory and for others to see what Jesus could do and Who He was. I'm sure you know the story and how Jesus brought Lazarus back to life. Some of the people there went and told the Pharisees what Jesus had done, but it also says that many believed.
Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him. John 11:45
Everything in the story of Lazarus was in God's timing with God's purpose in the forefront.
We too have to wait on God's timing. Sometimes, I believe we think God should just fax on over that blessing or fill a need. Or perhaps He could drop it off to us by a quick shipment of UPS or maybe even send it to us by way of an instant message, but God doesn't work that way. He is Sovereign.
It's His plan we're going by and not our own but what is so wonderful is that as His children, He knows us and what we need and when we need it. He sees the big picture and knows how every little thing in our lives is going to work with other circumstances and events.
We may want to run ahead or lag behind His plan but the Lord is always "right on the dot".
So, are you thankful for God's timing?
