This is one of the first women’s ministry themes I put together to use for a group of ladies probably 25 years ago or so. I hope you will enjoy it!

The event themes on the website can be used for showers, parties, women’s ministry retreats and activities, or church functions. Each theme will have one or several possible spiritual applications. I give you lots of info and ideas—You pick just a few to enhance your event. More ideas can be used for showers and parties, but less is always more for ministry events.

Icebreakers

Get Acquainted Shoe Game

  • Have everyone take off one shoe as they come in and
place them in a pile. (You will have those that won’t want to participate. Gracefully allow them to pass with no pressure!)
  • After everyone arrives, have each person go by the pile and pick up a shoe that doesn’t belong to them.
  • When everyone has picked up a shoe from the pile, they
then take the shoes and find the person it belongs to by
looking at each person’s feet to match the shoe they have
    picked up.
  •  That person must tell the person with their shoe at least 3
things about themselves that’s not common knowledge in
order to get their shoe back.
  •  After everyone has their own shoes back, have a quick
discussion of some of the things that everyone learned
    new about their neighbors (friends).

Discussion Starter Questions

  • What are your favorite type of shoes to wear? (tennis, heels, etc.)
  • Describe your favorite pair of shoes (or model them if you have them on).
  • What is the farthest (in estimated miles) that you have ever walked.
  • When you were a kid, did you walk or ride the bus (or car) to school?
  • What’s your favorite place to walk? (beach, through the woods, along the street, through leaves, in the snow, etc.)

Music

  • Footprints of Jesus  Hymn
  • Stepping in the Light  Hymn (Wm. J. Kirkpatrick)
  • Follow On  Hymn (Robert Lowry)
  • Just a Closer Walk With Thee  Hymn
  • Each Step I Take  Hymn (W. Elmo Mercer)
  • Where He Leads Me  Hymn (J.S. Norris)

Favor Ideas

  • Novelty Shoe Laces
  • Shoe Horns
  • Flip-Flops
  • Novelty pair of socks
  • Decorated shoe shaped cookies
  • Shoe shaped notepads (check dollar stores)
  • Fill up acrylic shoe containers with candy. I’ve added some in the link boxes below for Amazon. The first ones listed are $9.96 for 24. That makes them less than 42 cents each, plus your candy. The other ones listed are mini-mini ones and are $9.98 for 48, so that’s around 21 cents a piece. Both sizes are really little acrylic shoes, but that’s all you need for a favor.

Door Prizes

  • Gift Certificate to a Shoe Store
  • Summer Flip Flops
  • Bedroom Slippers (character or novelty ones would be fun)
  • Shoe Shine Kit
    • These are not as easy to find anymore, but you could make up a basket or gift bag full of shoe items, such as shoe horn, few packs of various shoestrings, shoe cloth, a few kinds of shoe polish, etc.
  • Book In His Steps (Sheldon)

Just for Fun
