Lemon Event Theme Ideas

Lemons make a great start to a summer theme. What’s not to love about lemons. They are bright yellow. They make a wonderful summer drink of lemonade. There are oh so many kinds of things that a lemon can do!

Ideas for a Lemon Theme Event

I’ve used lemons with a “When life gives you lemons…make lemonade”, but really it has the potential for a lot of variety.

Simple Decorating

  • Tray filled with lemon related items
    • Line tray with yellow gingham or yellow dish towel.
    • Clear bowl or vase full of lemons
    • Pitcher of lemonade
    • Various glasses/tumblers
    • Bottle of lemon juice

Summer Games or Activities

  • Game of croquet
  • Game of badminton
  • Do some porch sittin’ and some games of checkers (with some lemonade of course)

  • Anything with lemon motif (apron, dishtowel, etc.)
  • Basket filled with lemons
  • Lemon tree seedling

  • Lemon tea (Take a teacup and saucer and package up with lemon flavored tea)
  • Lemon recipe book
  • Devotional book or book of encouragement
  • Set of tumblers with packaged lemonade such as a tin of lemonade mix.
  • Lemon Basket: Fill with lemon squeezer, zester, citrus juicer, box of lemon flavored tea, teacup, packaged lemonade mix, set of plastic tumblers (make them yellow if possible), and place in several lemons throughout basket. Tie with a bright yellow ribbon.

Invitaiton Ideas

  • Make ‘Lemon’ shaped invitations out of card stock.
  • Make ‘lemon’ invitations to hand deliver (hang an invitation tag on real lemons)

Share some lemon tips (lemons can work wonders) or even share some lemon recipes. Maybe find a few favorites of those possibly attending.

Hymn Story
Share the story behind the hymn, It Is Well if focusing on “making lemons out of lemonade”.

Invitation Wording Ideas

  • We are waiting for a little lemondrop to arrive soon… (baby shower)
  • When life gives you a lemondrop—you celebrate. (baby shower)
  • ___________found her main squeeze (bridal shower)
  • Squeeze in some time to celebrate on….(baby shower or birthday party)

Food and Serving

  • Lemon desserts: cakes, cookies, pies, etc.
  • Lemonade
  • Ice tea with lemons
  • Hot tea with lemons
  • If serving punch, use lemon slices to float in bowls.
