How to Throw a Bird Theme Event

I originally used this theme as an “His Eye is on the Sparrow” and also for a “Flock in for Fellowship” theme at one time. So many directions you could go with this. Birds are some of the most beautiful little creatures that God created. There is so much to learn from them and so much beauty from them to soak up.

The event themes on the website can be used for showers, parties, women’s ministry retreats and activities, or church functions. Each theme will have one or several possible spiritual applications. I give you lots of info and ideas—You pick just a few to enhance your event. More ideas can be used for showers and parties, but less is always more for ministry events.

  • Focus on some of the birds of the Bible and some of the Biblical stories and lessons that go along with them.

Icebreakers

Blow the Feather
See who can blow a feather down the length of a table first (without touching it with their hands)

Bird Calls
See who can do the best bird call such as a chirping sound or a crow or owl sound.

  • If you had to be bird, what kind would it be and why?
  • Describe a time you felt like God was protecting you.
  • What’s your favorite song that you like to chirp (sing)?

Share a few unusual bird facts or see if you have any bird watchers in your group that could share some tips for bird watching.

Group Craft

  • Paint and decorate small birdhouses
  • Check the wood section of your craft stores or online for birdhouses.
  • Have all your supplies on hand such as paint, paintbrushes, etc.

Invitation Wording Ideas

  • There’s a baby birdy about to hatch! (baby shower)
  • Tweet! A new baby birdy has just hatched! (baby shower)
  • There is a blessed nest at the home of _____________. A new baby birdy has hatched. (baby shower)

Food and Serving Ideas

  • Chicken dishes such as chicken salad sandwiches
  • Egg dishes such as egg salad sandwiches
  • Chocolate bird nests
  • Candy robin eggs in small dishes
  • Label a small dish of sunflower seeds (shelled) as “bird seed”.
  • Label a dish of trail mix blend as “bird seed”.
  • Label a small dish of gummy worms as “for the early birds”.
