Bag With Scallops “Purse”

Hello Creative Friends,
Okay, you are probably getting tired of the Bag With Scallops Die, but I just had to share with you this purse I made.  I promise, next share will be with something different!:)

Bag With Scallops Purse

For this project, I put the Bag With Scallops for the Big ShotDie Cutting Machine together as normal, but I added a piece of card stock on top of the scallop.  The width of the scallop die (approximately just over 2 1/4 inches) by 2 1/2 inches, creasing at approximately 1 inch to make the fold for my flap.

Bag With Scallops Front View

I added a card stock handle, about 1/2 inch wide by 9 inches long.  I put those on with brads about an inch down on the sides.  You have to put your handle down far enough or the bag won’t open and close correctly.

I used our new Melon Mambo card stock, which is so bright and pretty and Basic Black.  I thought it made a really nice combo for my purse.  I did a little faux stitching on it too.  I placed Velcro dots under the flap for the closure.

The brad on the closure is one of the Star Designer Brads from Stampin’ Up!  They are fast becoming one of my favorite accessories.  You’ll find a variety of them on page 179 of the catalog.

My husband laughed at my not so straight stitching.  I told him my purse must be a knock-off because that’s how you are supposed to be able to tell the real stuff –from the stitching!  Actually when I do faux stitching I like it to look a little uneven.  I think that’s part of it’s charm.

I tried to take a photo of the inside flap so you could see what I meant by covering the scallop with the piece of card stock but the color on color didn’t take well but I hope you get the idea.

I covered the inside flap up with some of the new Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper.  I thought it made a nice pretty lining and a nice way to cover that pieced together flap.  I’m big on making things pretty on the inside too:)
