Love Potion Valentine’s Favor

Valentine's Test Tube CraftToday I’m sharing a cute idea for a “Love Potion” that would be fun for church Valentine’s banquet favors or even for kid’s party goodies.

You were able to get these plastic test tubes at Michaels around Halloween.  I’m not sure if they still carry them, but there are some places online.   Test Tube’s Online is one that I’m aware of.   If you know of another place to get them, just leave a comment.

For this, I just filled the tube with red hots.  For the holder, I just cut 2 pieces of 8 1/2 inch cardstock by 2 inches.  I cut two because when I was done scoring, folding and punching the hole for the test tube to stand in, I glued the two pieces together to make it sturdy.  You could also recycle some cardboard (such as off of soda boxes) and cover it but the Stampin’ Up! cardstock is pretty thick so I just used the thickness of two of those sheets of cardstock.  One piece of cardstock will not be sturdy enough to hold your test tube after it is filled.

I scored each of those 2 x 8 1/2 pieces of cardstock  at 1 1/2 inches in, then 3 1/2, then 5, then 7.    This gives you two 1 1/2 inch sides and two 2 inch sides, with an inch and  1/2 to fold under.  I punched a 1 inch circle in top of the middle 1 1/2 fold.  I punched those before I glued the two pieces together so that the punch would go through the cardstock and just lined them up before I glued.

After I glued the pieces together (on top of each other), I just creased the folds and glued under the extra flap.  Just embellish how you want.  The heart I put on my holder is from the “You & Moi” Stamp Set.

I printed 1 John 4:7a from the computer and made a tag to go with it.  Other great “love” verses would be…

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever should not perish, but have everlasting life.   John 3:16

…I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.  Hebrews 13:5b

I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.    Jeremiah 31:3

And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest
of these is charity.   1 Corinthians 13:13

Hope you enjoyed this idea.  You can fill these with various things for different holidays—Easter–jelly beans, Thanksgiving–Indian Corn, Christmas–Red and Green M&M’s.

Julia

    Julia,
I am thinking about doing a buisiness at home making things like fyou favors to sell. Do you have any idea how much it cost you to get you supplies to begin your stamping, etc. ministry? I will probably have to try to get a grant for the setting up.

    Thank you,
    Janet May

I think these are great. We are planning a wedding shower and really want to use these as favors. I tried Michaels and they do not have them this time of the year. I did go to the website you had in your blog. What size are the test tubes that you used?
