Patriotic Flowerpot Card

Patriotic Flowerpot CardHello Creative Friends,

Several of my friends have made “flowerpot” cards and there was a challenge for them over at Splitcoast Stampers not too long ago.  With the 4th of July coming up, I decided I’d try one with a patriotic flair.

I did change my dimensions some from what they suggested for the challenge and I made mine a little differently.   You can find the original challenge for them here

I wanted more room on the top so I made the flowerpot base a little smaller.  Also I wanted dimension on my flowerpot so I needed to add the rim around the top separately instead of folding it down as they suggested.

Here’s my basic directions.

For the patriotic base:
Start with a 3 1/2 x 6 piece of cardstock (Real Red).  Score at 3 inches on the 6 inch side and fold so you end up with a 3 x 3 1/2 folded piece.

Cut 1/2 inch in  from the bottom of each side up to the top side edge of each.  This forms the angles for your flowerpot base.

Cut three 1/2 inch x 3 inch strips out of Whisper White Cardstock and adhere evenly spaced across the front of the flowerpot base vertically.  See photo for placement.

For The Rim:
Cut a 3 3/4 x 1 inch strip of cardstock (Brilliant Blue).  Round the corners on this piece.  Stampin’ Up! has a punch for this but I don’t have it so I just cut mine but for those who don’t like just free-handing things, there is a punch called the Corner Rounder :)

Adhere 3  stars of Whisper White Card Stock punched from the Stampin’ Up! Star Punch evenly on the Brilliant Bluestrip.    Add the blue strip with stars across the top of the base with Dimensionals (foam mounts).  I used Dimensionals to put on the stars as well.

For The Pull Out Card:
I used the same measurements for this as suggested for the Splitcoast challenge.

Cut a piece of  2/ 1/2 x 4 1/2 Real Red Card Stock and layer with a piece of 2 1/3 x 4 1/4 Whisper White Card Stock.

I used mine as an invitation using the Please Come stamp set from Stampin’ Up!

Decoration For Pull Out:
Stampin’ Up! Little Leaves Sizzlit, Flower Daisies #2 Die for the Big Shot, and  Star Punch.

Finishing Touches:
I added a Mini Glue Dot to each inside top corner of the flowerpot base to hold it together.  The original directions were to put ribbon around it and hold it together that way, but with the patriotic bottom it seemed like any ribbon I used took away from the look of it so I went with glue dots instead.

To keep mine  at the right size for the envelope,  l laid it out on a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 piece of cardstock before I adhered the decoration to my pull out card so that I wouldn’t go over.

You can browse through lots of these flowerpot cards over at Splitcoast Stampers in their gallery for this technique here.  Grab a cup of coffee and get comfortable.  There’s 42 pages of them that had been submitted last I looked:)

Fringe Paper Flowers

Hello Creative Friends,
Since I mentioned “fringe” flowers in yesterday’s post, I thought I’d go ahead and show you some.  These are similar to the ones on page 9 of the Stampin’ Up! Mini Occassions Catalog but using my own measurements for the differnce in each layer.  I never did find any detailed directions directly from Stampin’ Up! for the flower project in the Mini Catalog .  All I could find was that they used a 12 x 2 piece of DSP on it so my directions may be different than what they intended.

lgfringefl2

I made these  in a couple different sizes out of DSP (Designer Series Paper).  The above flowers  are done using the Stampin’ Up! Rainbow Sherbet DSP and the single one in the photo below  is done with the Sweet Always DSP.

The larger flowers above have 3 inch, 2 inch, and 1 inch layers.  The smaller single one below has a 2 1/2 inch, 2 inch, and 1 1/2 inch layer.  You can make them any size you want depending on how much of a gap you want between your layers.

On some I spread out the center layer and put in a button.  On the others I left the center together.  I like them both ways.

Daisy Die For The Big Shot

Hello Creative Friends,
Hope you all had a good weekend.  Just had to share with you some of the daisies I’ve been making using the Flower Daisies #2 Die for the Big Shot.

I’ve found that you can make the flowers made from this die look all different ways.  It depends whether you leave them flat or curl the edges, what material you use to make them, how many layers you use, and what size and  type of center you put on them.

On the ones in the photo, I used two of the largest size layers and one of the middle size layers.   The die actually has three size of daisy layers.

Papercraft DaisiesI textured some Chocolate Brown Card stock with the dotted Texturz Plates and made the flower centers out of the 1 1/4 Circle Punch.    The edges are sponged with Creamy Caramel Ink and they are put on dowel rods covered with floral tape.

I wanted them to look more like Gerber daisies, but they turned out more of a cross between a regular daisy, a Gerber, and a Lazy Susan.  Hey!  They are a hybrid.  Who knew!:)

Tomorrow marks my 8th Anniversary on the web for my Creative Ladies Ministry.  Be sure to stop back in tomorrow and I’ll have some anniversary cake waiting for you:)

Have a creative day,
Julia
